Andrew Cuomo is hoping to quit his biggest political comeback since President Donald Trump won the White House last November.
Cuomo, a former three-term New York governor who resigned in 2021 amid multiple scandals, is the forefront of the 11 candy date fields fighting for the blue-blue New York City Democratic mayoral nomination.
The former governor saw a once-large lead worse as progressives merged around Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old state assembly member in Queens and a democratic socialist originally from Uganda – highlighting his experience.
“We know that we can do government work because that’s what we did in New York. They said we can’t do that. We did that,” Cuomo told a large number of supporters at the Union Hall rally on Tuesday the eve of the New York City primary.

Cuomo shows his fortitude in protecting the country’s most populous city from what he claims is a threat from Trump.
“Democrats, we stand strong, united, tall, you won’t be separating us,” Cuomo emphasized when referring to the Republican president. “We lock our arms, and we move forward.”

Kaomo recently said as mayor he would host a national campaign to block Trump’s agenda, but vowed to suggest that it would be a future Trump administration crackdown on New York City immigration protests.
Additionally, Cuomo “promised to stand up to Trump before his attitude reached New York.”

Politics is often said to be filled with a second chance, thanks to a long list of politicians who fell out of defeat or grace before they won redemption in the ballot box. Cuomo is about to be the latest on that list.

Cuomo, 67, fought to clear his name after 11 sexual harassment accusations over the past four years. He was also under investigation to handle the Covid-19 pandemic amid allegations that his administration has kept a modest and modest COVID-related death in state nursing homes.
Last month, the Justice Department launched a criminal investigation into Cuomo after accusing Republicans of lying to Congress about decisions they made as governor during the coronavirus pandemic.
Cuomo faces many incoming fires against luggage from his major rivals on the campaign trail, and is in two debates between candidates.

But Lee M. Miringoff, head of public opinion at Marist University, told Fox News: “There’s a general sense that New Yorkers are willing to offer someone a second chance.”
Cuomo’s bigger concern is Mamdani. He surged to second place in the vote this spring, closing the gap with Cuomo ahead of the primary.
Mamdani is aiming to be the former governor, noting that many Cuomo donors supported Trump in last year’s presidential election.

“Olihead is on the vote. Andrew Cuomo is a billionaire class candidate who suffocates our democracy and drives the working class out of our cities,” Mamdani’s campaign argued in an email to supporters.
Cuomo’s campaign in recent weeks has criticized Mamdani as “a dangerously inexperienced lawmaker,” and the former governor has touted it as “managing the state and managed crises, from Covid to Trump.”

“The mayor of New York City is the CEO of one of the world’s largest companies. This is not a beginner’s job,” Cuomo said on the eve of the primary. “This is not work… for vocational training. You need someone who knows what you’re doing on the first day, as your life depends on it.”
Among other things, Mamdani, who wants to eliminate the fare that “tuition” at New York University on New York City’s vast bus system, landed a big boost earlier this month after receiving approval from Councillor Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a progressive rock star and New York City’s most well-known leader. A week later, he was also Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, a progressive champion and was approved as runner-up for two-time Democratic presidential candidates.
With multiple candidates running left in the primary, Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders’ support was aimed at consolidating the progressive voter support behind Mamdani.
The third-place candidate heading for the primary was New York City Secretary Bloodlander. He attracted the public’s attention on the day the campaign was shut down after being arrested in Manhattan by Department of Homeland Security agents.
Lander was taken into custody for allegedly assaulting a federal officer as he attempted to escort the defendant from an immigration court.

Temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees in New York on Tuesday as the city holds the main ones. Dangerously high temperatures can prevent some older voters from heading to the poll. Because of that possibility, the heat wave could affect turnout in races that could lead to Cuomo’s union support and campaign structure than Mandani’s volunteer forces.
New York City election officials said more than 384,000 Democrats voted early and ended Sunday.
Elections are conducted using a rank selection voting system that ranks candidates by their voters’ preference for voting. If a candidate has not received the majority of first-line votes, the lowest voter will be removed and the candidate’s vote will be reassigned to the voter’s next high choice. The process is repeated until one candidate falls below 50%. Mamdani hopes that the ranked selection process will enhance his chances for Cuomo.
The New York City primary is working to escape the political wilderness after the party lost control of the White House, a Senate majority, following last year’s election, following the elections.
That comes when Democrats work to resist Trump’s sweeping and controversial second-term agenda.
Miringoff said the primary outcome would be considered a barometer of the way Democrats are heading, if Democrats win, then Mamdani win, heading left.

“It’s New York, it’s a very blue city and everything that happens is expanding, so I think we’re hearing a lot about the future of the Democrats.
Thirdway, a group of Democrats on the centre left, said in a memo he was “deeply wary” about Mamdani’s prospects for victory.
“Mamdani’s victory in such a well-known office would be a devastating blow in the fight to defeat Trumpism,” the group argued.
The Democratic primary winner is traditionally considered the overwhelming frontline in the November general election in a Democrat-controlled city.
However, this year, the general election campaign may be a little more unpredictable.

Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, a moderate Democrat who was elected in 2021, is running for reelection as an independent. Earlier this year, Adams dropped his major Democrat bid as his approval rating sank to a historic low.
Adams’ polls sank before he was charged with five counts last year. This denounced the mayor of bribery and fraud as part of a “long-term” scheme to personally benefit from contact with foreigners.
The mayor repeatedly overtured President Donald Trump, and the Justice Department dismissed the corruption charges earlier this year, so Adams could work with the Trump administration in oppression of illegal immigration.

New York City allows candidates to run on multiple party lines, so if either Cuomo or Mamdani loses Tuesday’s Democratic primary, he could run as an independent or third-party candidate in the November general election, adding to the election drama.
