Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo hit Big Apple’s mayor’s enemy, Zoran Mamdani on Friday as he lives in a rent-stable apartment despite being “very rich.”
“Last night, somewhere in New York City, a single mother and her children slept in a homeless shelter for you, the councillors. [Zohran Mamdani]occupying her rent-controlled apartment,” Cuomo posted on X on Friday, with a monthly rent of $2,300 on a MP video.

Cuomo, who lost the Democratic primary to Mamdani but has taken him again as independent in the general election, has called on his opponents to abandon his apartment to those who deserve more subsidies. He cited Mamdani’s wealthy upbringing, six figures of income and international property ownership. Cuomo also pointed out that Mamdani’s wife is employed.

“No matter which way you cut it: Zohran Mamdani is rich,” Cuomo said in the post. “You’re actually very wealthy. Still, you and your wife will pay $2,300 a month for a lovely apartment in Astoria, as you brag about. It should live for those who need it.”

The former governor also cited New York City’s affordable price crisis, noting that millions of city low-income people need affordable apartments. Median rent in New York City reached $3,397, an increase of nearly $200 since 2024, according to Realtor.com.

“Today, I’m urging you to move in quickly and return to families who don’t need affordable housing,” Cuomo said. “Leaders must show moral clarity. Time to move.”

“To date, Zohran Mamdani and his campaign have been avoiding scrutiny. He speaks like Bernie, but lives like Bezos,” a Cuomo spokesman told Fox News Digital in an email. “It turns out to be handed over the keys of New York City to the show’s no-show. Councillor hypocrites are a bad idea. Andrew Cuomo is running to build a new New York City by protecting the streets for real affordability and giving opportunities to those who actually need it.”
