Former President Joe Biden joking on Friday, allowing him to take on those who questioned his mental abilities following his first official duties after he announced he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Biden’s statement came after several books were released detailing his mental deterioration during his inauguration, including the book “Original Singh: The Death, Cover-up and the Disastrous Choice of Running Again,” released on May 20th.
“I can see that I’m mentally incompetent, I can’t walk,” Biden said with reporters on Friday after speaking at a Memorial Day event. “And I was able to beat hell from both of them.”
Biden appeared to refer to the authors of the book, CNN’s Jake Tupper and Axios’ Alex Thompson.
Biden’s first official duties since cancer diagnosis
Former President Joe Biden will speak at a ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park in Newcastle, Delaware on May 30, 2025.
The reporter’s book claims that Biden struggled to piece together consistent text for a campaign ad video, and that his Cabinet meeting was allegedly “scripted” and that Biden’s team plotted cover-ups to hide just how severely his mental abilities have faded.
But Biden’s team pushed back the material contained in the book.
“There is nothing in the book that shows Joe Biden didn’t do his job, as the authors claim, and he didn’t prove the allegation that there was a cover-up or conspiracy,” a Biden spokesman said in a statement in Fox News Digital. “They show nowhere that our national security is under threat, or that the President was not engaged in any important issues of the presidency. In fact, Joe Biden was an effective president who led our country with empathy and skill.”

In addition to publishing multiple books this year, it also documented the deterioration of Biden’s mental abilities, and an audio recording of an interview with former special advisor Robert Huar in October 2023 was released in May.
Biden revealed on May 18 that he had a “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, and his office later said he had never had a previous diagnosis of prostate cancer. Biden told reporters Friday that he was “optimistic” about his diagnosis and is currently undergoing treatment in the form of medication.

“Together, we remember the debts we owe to the US military,” Biden said at an event sponsored by Delaware’s Veteran Affairs Committee.
“The military is the solid spine, the spine of our country,” he said. “Our military, veterans, our military families, especially the Gold Star families. Only about 1% of all Americans defend 99% of us. 1%. Only 1% of Americans put the ultimate sacrifice at risk.
