A Southern California primary school teacher was sentenced to four years in prison on Friday, and there are accusations that he downloaded hundreds of videos depicting sexual abuse of a child, including clips containing infants, federal prosecutors said.
Stephen Pilar, 47, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography late last year. Prosecutors said Pilar, a fifth-grade teacher at the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District in San Gabriel Valley, had downloaded more than 400 videos showing her engagement in sexual acts at her Victorville home.
Many of the Pilar downloaded videos and images show that they are engaged in sexual abuse of minors under the age of 12 and “toddlers and toddlers,” according to a news release issued Friday by the U.S. Lawyer’s Office in Los Angeles.
“His actions have in this case caused direct and serious harm to the victim, and his crimes have been exacerbated by the fact that he was teaching young children at the time,” the prosecutor wrote in a memorandum of determination filed in court.
Pilar was also ordered to pay his victim $115,000 in reparations. According to San Gabriel Valleto Ribune, he once taught at Baldwin Academy in Lapuente.
