Firefighters continued Thursday to extinguish the Franklin Fire, which has burned more than 4,000 acres in the Malibu area.
The fire has now burned 4,037 acres and is only 7% contained. The first began Monday night, prompting road closures, school closures and evacuations.
“Firefighters are working steadily as relative humidity increases overnight and light northeast winds are expected to continue into the evening,” Cal Fire said. “We are actively balancing efforts to establish and strengthen perimeter controls throughout the day,” and moderate fire behavior was observed.

Los Angeles County officials say an evacuation order means there is immediate danger to life. “This is a lawful order to leave now. This area is legally off limits to the public.”
Evacuation orders have been issued for the following areas.
South of Piuma Road North of Pacific Coastline East of Puerco Canyon Road/Coral Canyon Park West of Los Flores Canyon Road Between Pacific Coastline and Tuna Canyon Park on the west side of Tuna Canyon Road
Evacuation advisory
Los Angeles County officials say an evacuation advisory means there is a potential threat to life or property. “If you need time to evacuate, or if you have pets or livestock, please evacuate now.”
Evacuation warnings have been issued for the following areas.
East of Trancas Canyon Road and Canaan Dune Road West of Topanga Canyon Boulevard/Surfview Drive South of Mulholland Highway North of the evacuation order boundary. Includes Topanga zones 8 and 10
school closure
Pepperdine University students were ordered to shelter in place, the school issued a statement on social media Tuesday night. But as of Wednesday morning, shelter-in-place protocols were lifted.

All schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu School District are also closed until Thursday due to the fire.

Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Canaan Dume Road, according to the California Highway Patrol West Valley. Only those who have actively evacuated the area will be open.

An evacuation center has been set up at the Palisades Rec Center, 851 Alma Real Drive, Pacific Palisades.
Another shelter that is open is at the Calabasas Community Center, 27040 Malibu Hills Road in Calabasas.
These centers are open to anyone displaced by the wildfires. Pets are allowed in carriers or crates.
A shelter for small animals has been set up at the Agoura Animal Shelter, 29525 Agoura Road in Agoura Hills.
A large animal shelter has been set up at Pierce College, 6201 Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills.
The City of Malibu also set up an emergency information station at Zuma Beach where residents can stop for up-to-date information, food, water, and first aid.
