How will the Los Angeles area wildfires affect the Grammy Awards?
The 2025 Grammy Awards will go ahead as scheduled, but will focus on wildfire relief efforts.
Each year, the Recording Academy hosts a number of events welcoming the music industry during Grammy Week. Record labels do the same thing. But a number of organizations, including Universal Music Group, BMG and Warner Music Group, have canceled their plans and instead allocated resources to wildfire relief and reconstruction efforts in the Los Angeles area.
On Wednesday, the Recording Academy announced it had condensed its pre-Grammy Awards week plans into just four events, each with a fundraising element.
Events scheduled to be held at the immersive pop-up Grammy House, including the annual pre-Grammy Black Music Collective event and Grammy Advocacy Brunch, have been canceled. In all, at least 16 pre-Grammy Awards events sponsored by the Recording Academy have been canceled.
“We understand how devastating this past week has been for this city and its people. This is our home and home to thousands of music professionals. Many of us have been negatively impacted,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said. said in a statement.
Last week, the Recording Academy and MusiCares kicked off Los Angeles fire relief efforts with a $1 million donation. Thanks to additional donations, they have already distributed $2 million in emergency aid, the letter said.
