The Hughes Fire is burning north of Castaic around Castaic Lake. The fire broke out just before 11 a.m. Wednesday, with a red flag warning in place for the area. Fueled by strong winds, the fire quickly grew to 5,054 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
evacuation order
Los Angeles County has issued an evacuation order for Castaic Lake and surrounding areas. The zone generally encompasses the area east of Lake Piru and the Ventura county line, west of Bouquet Canyon Road, south of Sandburg and north of Castaic Junction.
Ventura County has issued an evacuation order for areas east of Lake Piru and west of Interstate 5.
Evacuation advisory
Areas in Los Angeles County are under warning along the boundaries of evacuation zones. This includes the communities of Pyramid Lake, Sandburg, Three Points, Caswell, Hughes Lake, and Del Valle.
Ventura County also issued an evacuation advisory for areas east of Camross to the Los Angeles County line and from Highway 126 north to Lake Piru.

road closure
Interstate 5 was closed in both directions along the Grapevine section. Northbound Route 5 was closed at the interchange with California 126 at the north end of Valencia. Southbound Route 5 was closed at Grapevine Road in southern Kern County.
According to the California Highway Patrol, road closures include Ridge Route Road at Lake Hughes Road, Ridge Route Road at Templin Highway, Lake Hughes Road at Pine Canyon Road, and San Francisquito Road at Lake Hughes Road. It was located on Dry Gulch Road at Canyon Road.
The Parker Road and Lake Hughes Road exits of the 5 Freeway are closed.

People in the evacuation area can take shelter at Hart High School, 24825 Newhall Avenue in Santa Clarita. Large pets are accepted at Pierce College, located at 6201 Winnetka Avenue in Woodland Hills. Small pets are accepted at the Palmdale Animal Shelter, 38550 Sierra Highway, Palmdale; Agoura, 29525 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills; and Lancaster, 5210 W. Avenue I, Lancaster.
