The US Customs and Border Patrol caught a suspect in a Tren de Aragua gang during a traffic stop near Detroit on Wednesday.

A traffic stop in Shelby Township by officers at Maryville Station CBP was caused by a fake license plate on the vehicle. The CBP said that all three people in the car were illegally present in the United States, one of which was Venezurea National Manuel Za Valaropez, a member of the Tren de Aragua gang who entered the country during the Biden administration in May 2023 and was released according to the DHS.

The group, along with MS-13, was appointed to a foreign terrorist organization early on during President Donald Trump’s second term. Some of these suspected members were sent to El Salvador’s Terrorist Confinement Centre for detention.

“The arrest of this Tren de Aragua gang member who has a history of firearms and other criminal charges and who has been asked for an aggressive warrant for not appearing from Denver, Colorado, will remove another dangerous, illegal criminal alien from our country and increase public safety.”

“This marks the second arrest of gang members from foreign terrorist organizations this month, highlighting the relentless efforts of agents and law enforcement partners. These cases highlight the important value of interagency cooperation in removing these criminal threats from our community,” Morris added.

The 30-year-old, who was not appointed but revealed by his agency, had previously been charged with violent robbery and weapons and immigration violations, according to a news release.

“This Tren de Aragua gang member who had not done business in our country will serve as a commitment to our department to keep our community safe and to remove such dangerous individuals from our community, not to mention roaming the city of Shelby Township.”
