The Gardena man was sentenced last year in federal prison for more than three years in charge of serving as a mail carrier.
John Leomen Ross, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of attack on a federal employee in November, causing physical injuries related to the attack on February 21, 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.
A mailman identified as Bruce Jennings was delivering mail at a home near Hoover and 172nd Avenue when Ross began screaming at him, video from the scene shows.
“According to the victims, Ross screamed at him, got upset and didn’t get the package he felt he should have already received,” DOJ said.

Jennings added that Ross “appears to have left before hitting him behind his head, hitting him on his eyes, and the body slammed USPS employees into the ground,” the release added.

Last year, a neighbor told KTLA that Ross had been a long-term problem in the area.
“Our problem was that Bruce, the world’s greatest man, punched the sucker,” said neighbor Carol Nishijima. “[Ross] I put him on the floor and started whaling him. We’ve been trying to get John Ross out of the neighborhood for quite some time. He grew up here, and he has been breaking into people’s homes since he was young. ”
Officials, including the role of our lawyer Joseph McNally, said on release that postal workers need to be protected from such violence.
“The defendants here have violently attacked postal workers who were struggling with the job they were working for,” Attorney Joseph McNally said. “We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for helping us serve this defendant’s sentence.”
