Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom said he and President Donald Trump had a plan if the Trump administration arrested him after he and President Donald Trump headed straight into handling immigration protests in Los Angeles.

Newsom said he and his team “handled” what that means to him if the Trump administration secured a federal warrant for his arrest, Newsom said in an interview with the “Pod Save America” podcast hosted by former Obama administration officials, aired Monday night.

“What’s very absurd about that question is that I actually thought about it,” Newsom said when asked about preparing for an event where authorities would detain him.

“The fact that we’re even having that conversation with people and having that conversation with people in the US in 2025 is that it’s all you need to know about the people in the White House right now,” Newsmom said.

Trump gives Newsom’s bold Homan a bold response to arrest him: “I.”

Newsom also tackled the threat of arrest in an interview with the Washington Post released Tuesday, showing that the two relationships have reached a point beyond repair.

“He just threatened my arrest. I’d assume that was the point of returning, or assume that,” Newsmom told the Washington Post. “Even those seeking arrest can work with constitutional lords. So I continue to decide on that point as I continue to decide to have the backs of children whose lives are threatened by his authoritarian tendencies.”

Trump’s border emperor Tom Homan first proposed in an interview with NBC News on Saturday that Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass could face arrests if they hamper the federal government’s efforts to deport illegal immigrants.

In response, Newsom appeared to provoke Homan to take him into custody.

“He’s a tough guy. Why doesn’t he do that? “That kind of broviation is tired. So, Tom, arrest me. Let’s go.”

When asked about the threat of arresting Newsom, Trump told reporters Monday that Newsom’s major crimes were “running for governor because he did such a bad job.”

Newsom expressed disappointment in response to Trump’s remarks, warning that the threat is a step towards authoritarianism.

“The US president has just called for the arrest of the sitting governor,” Newsom said Monday in an X post.

Meanwhile, Homan appeared to soften the original statement, but said the arrest would only happen if the crime was committed by Newsom and Bass.

“Well, it’s all out of context,” Homan said. “They haven’t crossed the line yet, but like any other US citizen, if you cross that line, I don’t care who they are. Governor, mayor, anything – when you commit a crime against an ice officer, we ask for prosecution.”

Newsom, who was first elected governor in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, drew Trump’s rage over how he handled multiple issues in the state, including the wildfire that destroyed Los Angeles in January.

The pair are on the verge of Trump’s decision to deploy thousands of National Guard troops and 700 Marines to California after protesting Friday in response to recent city arrests by US immigrants and customs enforcement.

Trump argued that National Guard forces were needed to prevent the destruction of Los Angeles, but Newsom said the deployment violated California’s sovereignty. The governor usually oversees the National Guard troops, but Trump has called the law to deploy troops under federal command to avoid Newsom.

On Monday, Newsom said most of the troops were “sitting in unordered federal buildings and unused.”

“This is not about public safety,” Newsom said in X’s Monday post. “It’s about stroking the dangerous president’s ego.”
