For the past month and a half, the world has been waiting for what appears to be the inevitable passage of Pope Francis.
The 1.3 billion Catholic spiritual and honorable leaders were hospitalized for severe respiratory infections that turned into double pneumonia and partial renal failure. This is a horrifying diagnosis for the healthiest person, but a genuine death sentence for the 88-year-old lacking part of one lung.
People prayed and wept around the world not only because of his poor health, but because he had come at the worst possible time.
Wherever they are, the tyrant is marching.
Politician. High-tech Brothers. Industry captain. Podcasters and social media influencers. They preach that they may be right. They enjoy the cruelty. They demand worship, if not completely praised.
These self-attackers attack people who don’t agree with them. They long for the age of kings and emperors. They scoff at concepts like transparency. Humility? It’s for the weak. Their message to the public is simple. Don’t see your own or your community salvation from our troubled times. You must believe in us.
This mountain of egomania standing there was Francis.
The Pope literally wields the power that allows him to speak the ex-cathedra from the Pope’s throne to make an unrequited fall declaration on morality that a faithful must obey. Beneath their territory are billions of dollars in assets and hundreds of thousands of priests. All their words make global news. It is the type of influence that Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their fellow tyrannical travelers strive for all the awakened seconds of their lives.
However, Francis rejected all the traps of the character and the cult. Instead, the Pope preached and preached what Jesus had ordered to command his followers in the mountain sermon.

Within the first weeks of his Pope, Francis urges the priest to “a shepherd who lives with the “smell of a sheep”” and leaves the comfort of their position for a place where “suffering, bloodshed, eager to vision, and where many evil masters have prisoners.”
His appointment to Cardinal of the University, a man who chooses his successor, leaned against someone with a high public profile, not on the high clergy who served on the forefront of poverty and war. He established an advisory committee previously made up of bishops to praise the values of Indigenous peoples around the world and give birth to people to be more involved in imagining the future of the Church.
In particular, Francis welcomed immigrants during a time of dislike around the world. In 2021, in a Greek refugee camp, he condemned our “age of walls and barbed wire.” In February, Vice President J.D. V. V. V. V. D. Vance, a Catholic convert, justified Donald Trump’s proposed mass expulsion program, his holiness wrote a pointy letter to our bishop, tying a light letter of undocumented persons in the holy family, and urged church leaders to remind them of the pragmatic person of good Samaritans.
Conservative Catholics – Many Catholics in the United States have long been denounced the leaders of liberation theology, if not entirely heretical, for his work. Francis assaulted them in last year’s “60 minutes” interview as people with “suicidal attitudes” in a distinctive pick of his Argentine upbringing. [them] In my own box. ”

Gallup polls found that Catholic church attendance has declined by 7% since the launch of Francis’ Pope. The Washington Post reported that 59% of Catholic voters chose Trump in the 2024 election. A recent Pew Research Centre study found that 41% of Catholics believe that recent immigration to the country is “deteriorating.”
It is an odd shift from members of the faith that have relied on immigrants to replenish it since the time of the Baltimore Lord.
Trump’s administration is full of Catholics who seem to have misunderstood the New Testament. Or skipped past Matthew 25, where Jesus welcomed strangers, visited prisoners and was told he remembered on the day of judgement when he did not. Trump’s inner circle includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Marco Rubio had just traveled to Central America, and Trump urged countries to bring in deported immigrants.
Timothy Dolan of New York Cardinal laughed with Donald Trump at a charity dinner last fall, and invited him on the president’s oath, telling Fox News host Maria Bartilomo that Trump “takes his Christian faith seriously.” Meanwhile, Archbishop of Los Angeles, Jose H. Gomez, hosted one of the world’s largest archdiocese, and spent more time opposing the railings of the illustrious cultural assumptions than openly criticizing the administration’s anti-immigrant rhetoric.
The Archdiocese has long held special masses and Novena (9 Days of Prayer) on behalf of immigrants. But in a column last month’s LA Archdiocese publication urged immigration reform, Gomez couldn’t even bring himself to criticize Trump by name.

Sometimes it requires something, or someone else’s, almost lost, that we did the obvious thing to stir up the calculations. May Pope Francis’ illness encourage self-reflection not only among Catholics, but among all Americans. For reasons why we should not follow only those we want to rule, but to help the poorest of us.
