Approximately 20 minutes after police appealed for tips on social media, authorities shared an update that the children had been found safe and the vehicle had been located.
According to NBC affiliate WTHR in Indianapolis, the good Samaritan went outside to retrieve his belongings and found two child seats. The girls were left in car seats in the cold.
The man took the infant into the car and called 911. Police confirmed the infant was the missing girl who was in the stolen car, the news station reported. The car was found near where the children were left.
William Young with the Indianapolis Police Department told WTHR he can’t thank the good Samaritans enough.
“It’s cold in here. Who knows what would have happened if this person hadn’t been outside,” he said.
The suspect is not yet in custody.
