House Republicans have proposed renaming the Kennedy Center Opera House in honor of First Lady Melania Trump.
On Tuesday, Republicans on the Approximate Budget Committee approved the amendment on a 33-25 vote to the annual spending bill that renamed the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts Opera House as the “First Lady Melania Trump Opera House.”
Trump serves as honorary chairman of the Kennedy Center’s board of trustees.

“This is a great way to recognize her support and commitment to promoting the arts,” Rep. Michael Simpson, R-ID, said.
Fox News Digital contacted the Kennedy Center and the White House.
The move comes months after President Trump was appointed chairman of the Kennedy Center and fired multiple board members.

The Kennedy Center Opera House is the centre’s second largest theatre with seating 2,347.
“For many years, the Opera House has welcomed dozens of great dance and opera companies in the world and has hosted some of the most important art events of the last quarter century,” the centre’s website states.

The Opera House also serves as the site for the Kennedy Center’s honors, the nation’s highest award for lifetime achievements in the arts.
