Lawmakers on both sides of the political aisle quickly condemned the violence after a man allegedly setting fire to the Pennsylvania governor’s mansion was arrested for being arrested.
“There’s no society for our political violence and this kind of action. I pray for Governor Shapiro and his family, and I hope that the heroes of PA law enforcement will hold justice accountable,” R-La. , residential leader Steve Scullyse said in a statement after the attack.
D-Mass. Senator Ed Markey of wrote, “The attacks on Governor Shapiro and his family on the first night of Passover are horrifying with hatred. I am grateful for their safety and for sending love to him and his family.”
Cody Ballmer, 38, will face charges that include attempted murder, terrorism and worsening, officials said at a press conference on Sunday.

Authorities said he would “actively avoid” the law enforcement agencies stationed at the mansion, and “forced in” to set up a flame.
Publicly released images in the aftermath showed ash-covered room and massive fire damage.
Shapiro, a Jew, said he and his family woke up around 2am to evacuate their homes after celebrating the first night of Passover.
But there were no injuries, the 2028 presidential candidate said.
It is noteworthy that in the current bipartisan environment, Republicans and Democrats quickly condemned suspicious violence rather than different boundaries.

Rn.Y. Rep. Elise Stefanik called the case “deeply disturbing and very scary” and called for the perpetrator to be prosecuted “within the fullest extent of the law.”
On the other side of the aisle, minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (Dn.Y.) likewise said, “No kind of political violence is accepted, and attacking Jewish families on the first night of Passover is particularly merciless.

“This must be condemned without hesitation, and those responsible must face the full power of the law,” R-PA Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick said.
“We need to remember: What unites us as a community and as a nation is always greater than what we want to divide us. That’s America’s strength, and the only way we can move forward.”
Additionally, Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) responded to images of fire damage.
