Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt has blew up California’s Gavin Newsom, offering health benefits to millions of illegal immigrants through the state’s MEDI-CAL program and calling on newsom to conduct a full audit of the state’s Medicaid expansion.
In a harsh letter obtained by Fox News Digital, Hunt called on Newsom to fully audit California’s Medi-Cal registration, to disclose findings of ineligible individuals receiving benefits, and to disclose exemptions that allow the state to provide Medi-Cal to illegal immigrants.
“Given the public’s opposition to the ice campaign of Congress and California Gov. Gavin Newsom, it’s logical to demand transparency about California’s illegal immigrants receiving benefits that only mean American citizens,” Hunt wrote.

Gavin Newsom strategically visits important major states and frowns
According to the Wall Street Journal, the Census Bureau estimates that one in five people in California are illegal foreigners.
Sources from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) say California is obligated to report Medi-Cal data to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Newsom cut funding for illegal immigration healthcare in the state’s budget signed late last month, and frozen Medi-Cal for new illegal immigration applicants funded by California taxpayers since January 2026.
However, Hunt has been particularly honed by the use of Newsom’s exemptions previously granted by the Biden administration.

“I am particularly wary of Newsom’s use of the Section 1115 exemption under the Social Security Act, which opened the door for undocumented immigrants to access Medicaid at the expense of American taxpayers,” Hunt added.
Section 1115 of the Social Security Act grants federal authority to waive certain Medicaid requirements. States can request exemptions from Section 1115, allowing these requirements to bend and potentially reduce.
“Is the California Medicaid system fully compliant with federal law?” Hunt asked. “Are many other Democrats taking advantage of similar loopholes? It’s time to shed light on this abuse and shut it down.”

Hunt also sent copies of the letter to the center of HHS Director Robert F. Kennedy and CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz.
“Californians deserve transparency, accountability and legal compliance in the management of public health programs,” the letter reads. “Policies that distract limited resources from legal recipients not only violate federal standards, they also destroy public trust and pose a threat to the sustainability of programs designed to serve the most vulnerable citizens.”
