Exclusive: R-Tenn. Sen. Marsha Blackburn of the group is blaming Democrats’ accusations that Republicans are trying to cut social security and Medicare benefits for older people.
“The message to older people is very simple. We will strengthen social security. That’s our goal. And one of the ways we do is eradicate waste, fraud and abuse,” she told Fox News Digital in an exclusive interview.

“There’s also the law I have now — and the president has spoken a lot about this — and it’s removing federal income tax from Social Security benefits. And when we’re working on the tax package, you’ll see this in one of those settlement packages,” she said.
“The left and mainstream media continue to talk a lot about reducing social security, but we haven’t,” she said. The Blackburn office has spread a memo last month highlighting a quote from President Donald Trump in “Sunday Morning Futures.” He said, “We don’t touch Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid.
“What we’re doing is being strengthened. We’re not cutting. What we’re doing is ensuring that people who are scaming their systems, who are abusing their systems, are no longer able to do that.

Blackburn also targeted California, and in 2024 it became state law, providing illegal immigrants with Medicaid, known as medical in the state. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y. , and other Democrats in Congress have issued warnings about the Social Security Agency cuts, including layoffs of 7,000 staff.
“Don’t make a mistake. What Elon Musk is doing with Social Security is cutting profits. And Senate Republicans are standing with him. They blocked our corrections last week to protect Social Security from Doge and reverse Social Security layoffs and office closures,” tweeted Schumer.

But Elon Musk said that cutting back on the benefits of people who are actually taking it is not the case.
“The interns running Schumer’s social media accounts are lying,” Musk said in response to Schumer’s post on Tuesday.
