The school year is finished for the Los Angeles Unified School District, and while Coach Alberto Carval has declared all campuses as safe spaces, he also guarantees graduation celebrations.
Carvalho joined the group on Monday for an emergency press conference organized to address concerns of community members, particularly immigrants.
“Our school is a safe place,” Carvalho said. “Our school is a place of education and inspiration, not fear or threat.”

According to United teacher Los Angeles, the safe space policy of all LAUSD properties also applies to official off-campus activities such as school buses and field trips.
Carvalho also says that graduation police are on hand to intervene at the graduation ceremony and interfere with federal agencies trying to disrupt the graduation ceremony.

“All children have the right to public education, so every child and their parents have the right to celebrate the culmination of success in education,” Carvalho said.

At a press conference Monday, the director urged parents to update their emergency contact information and discourage students from taking part in the strike, seeing them as the end of the school year.
More than 100 graduation ceremonies are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday throughout the district.
