The grandson of a Southern California state senator was killed in a car accident during the holiday season.
According to a press release issued by the office of Sen. Bob Archuleta (D-Pico Rivera), his 30-year-old grandson Alex Robles was driving near CA-18 in Apple Valley the night before Christmas Eve. While he was there, Robles was involved in a collision. The driver is suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.
Robles died instantly, but the unnamed driver of the car is said to have walked away unharmed. Archuleta’s release said he was arrested at the scene by San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies.

Upon hearing of the tragedy, Senator Archuleta and his wife rushed to Victorville to comfort their eldest daughter Sandra and the rest of the family.
Archuleta described Alex as a “lovely, wonderful person.”
“Alex was ready to take on the career he had dreamed of ever since he was a little boy,” he said. “Alex has already touched so many lives and made a difference in this world.”
The senator took time to remind people of the dangers of drinking and driving, especially during the holidays.

“We have to emphasize how important it is to not let anyone drink and drive during the holidays, because this can happen to any family at any time,” he said. “This is a deep loss for us and no one should have to go through a tragedy like this.”
Archuleta represents California’s 30th Senate District, which includes parts of Los Angeles County and Orange County. He was elected to the position in 2018.
