On Sunday, the UK government leader announced plans to place authorities at the nation’s top organized crime organizations in a so-called “grooming gang scandal,” which has resulted in sexual abuse of more than 1,000 children over 16 years, according to multiple media reports.
A 2014 survey found that between 1997 and 2013, 1,400 children, mainly white girls from working-class families in northern England, were sexually exploited, primarily working-class families, Reuters reported.
During the investigation, authorities reported that most of the perpetrators are Pakistani heritage.
According to the recoveries, many local officials and agencies were worried about appearing racist and identifying ethnic origins for fear of causing rifts within the community.
