Curtis Sliwa hits back at New York City Mayor Eric Adams and slams the city’s immigrant protection policies after he announced that his citizen law enforcement group, the Guardian Angels, would be returning to patrol New York’s subways. . It’s a crime crisis. ”

Sliwa announced that Guardian Angels will resume safety patrols in the New York City subways after a woman was burned to death on the subways during Christmas week. The New York Post reported that Sliwa said the group would resume patrolling the subways, going up and down trains “day and night.”

The Guardian Angels founder called the brutal subway murders “a deadly consequence of New York City remaining a sanctuary city.”

“56,000 immigrants labeled as criminals by ICE roam the streets, and vulnerable homeless people are left sleeping on subways because shelters are full and unsafe,” he said. said in X. “But Adams and City Hall pretend the city is safe and under control,” when New Yorkers witness disturbing crimes right before their eyes every day! ”

Mr. Sliwa, known for his distinctive red beret and jacket, founded the Guardian Angels in 1979, and the group became a fixture on the subway during many of the city’s most crime- and murder-ridden periods.

According to the New York Post, murders on New York City’s subways are currently up 60%. The same outlet reported in September that eight people died on New York City subways, up from five during the same period in 2023.

After last week’s brutal killing, Mr. Sliwa announced that Guardian Angels would return to New York’s subways and strengthen their presence on the city’s trains. He said members of the group will screen homeless people for their health and report any problems to police or metro authorities.

“We’re going to have to increase our numbers, increase our training and increase our presence, just like we did in 1979,” Sliwa said. “We grew from 13 people then to 1,000 people in less than a year because there was a need. The need is here again. We’re going to step up. We’re going to make sure we have a visual presence. I’m going to take it.’ Just like we had in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. ”

Nevertheless, Adams’ office slammed the Guardian Angels’ announcement.

Adams’ attorney, Kayla Mamelak Altas, told FOX News Digital that the mayor is “bringing 1,000 police officers a day into the subways to reduce overall crime and traffic crime, and to reduce overall crime and traffic crime. Instead, we are taking actual action.”

“Mayor Adams is committed to improving the lives of New Yorkers, which is why he frequently rides the subway and speaks directly to everyday riders about how we can make it safer,” Altas said. .

“But he knows there is still work left to do,” Artus added. “Unlike other mayors who only seek attention with pointless stunts, Mayor Adams remains focused on real solutions.”

In response, Mr. Sliwa urged Mr. Adams to deploy more police officers to the subway, and to conduct regular daily inspections of the subway to see how bad the problem has become since the city’s migrant surge. He asked the mayor to join the patrol.

“Go to the subway and patrol it yourself,” Sliwa told Adams directly. “I also fit in with him. Even with a busy schedule, I go four hours a day. The mayor has a busy schedule. He can run one patrol with the police. I am a Guardian Angel. We’re going to run patrols with them. That’s two more.” We’re going to run patrols that we didn’t have before. ”

“We are in a crime crisis and the mayor should be willing to accept anyone’s help at this time,” he told Fox News Digital. “So if you’re going to patrol a subway system that absolutely needs to be patrolled in a moving car, why would the mayor or anyone say that’s a play?”

“The mayor and governor have failed in their primary responsibility to provide public safety for the people in the metro,” he continued. “So if you don’t want to do the work, or perhaps you can’t and don’t want to admit it, you should welcome any help you can get from an organization known for 46 years of service to New Yorkers. Ask for nothing in return.” No.”

He said most of the attacks were carried out by “emotionally disturbed people” living in the metro.

“These attacks can happen anytime, anywhere, against anyone, in any part of this city, especially in the subway,” he explained. “We should be ashamed of ourselves for allowing this to happen. We need to rescue these people and give them mental health care. We should be ashamed of the fact that we spent billions and didn’t spend it on our people who live in the subway.”The subway has become a moving hotel.

“If the mayor did a good job…no one would ask guardian angels to patrol the subways,” he added. “The people want police, but if we don’t have police, we are happy to accept the services of volunteer guardian angels.”
