A 27-year-old man who fired a shot at a Border Patrol facility earlier this week injured three law enforcement officials who had shot to their knees and was shot dead during the incident, the Department of Homeland Security said.

The incident, which DHS described in a news release as “a horrifying shooting,” unfolded around 6am on July 7 at a USBP facility in McAllen, Texas, bordering Mexico.

Ryan Louis Mosqueda reportedly was armed with an assault rifle and utility vest, fired near the facility’s entrance and dropped dozens of rounds with building and internal staff before being “neutralized.”

Photos released by DHS show at least seven bullet holes in the main entrance of the facility.

“A McAllen police officer was shot in the leg,” the release said. “Both Border Patrol officers and Border Patrol employees were injured. All three were taken to hospital in uncritical conditions.”

According to a report from CBS News, the 27-year-old has no known criminal history. He was reportedly lost two hours before the violence unfolded from his address in Weslaco, Texas, a city about 16 miles west of McAllen.

Police officers shot in violent “organized attacks” against ice detention facilities

Additionally, Mosqueda was in a vehicle with a Michigan license plate, but there was no known address in the state. Officials say they carry a significant amount of ammunition.

“[The] DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin said, “If not due to the fearless actions of the Border Patrol and McAllen law enforcement, the heinous and unprovoked attacks at McAllen could have been a bloody blaze. This must end now, and those who take away this violence will face consequences.”

Monday’s incident at the USBP facility comes shortly after a “organized attack” in a town with at least 10 people at the Ice Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, in a town less than 30 miles from the Fort. It was worth it, and it caused a local police officer to suffer a gunshot wound to his neck.
