First Fox: A new bill from Congressional Republicans will suspend housing grants to sanctuary cities like Los Angeles that do not comply with federal law and immigration authorities.

“Cities that encourage illegal immigration should not be rewarded with federal housing subsidies,” said R-Tenn Sen. Bill Hagerty. “The Trump administration makes it clear that illegal immigration is not tolerated anywhere in the United States, and cities that are against American sovereignty will face the consequences.”

Protesters will place the wreckage on the fire as riot equipment and gas mask border guards outside the industrial park in Paramount, California on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

Hagerty’s bill. He had previously introduced it at the time Sen last year. JD Vance, R-Ohio will specifically target federal housing grants provided by the Community Development Block Grants Program.

According to the agency, a decades-old grant program run by the Housing and Urban Development Department funds grants to states, cities and counties each year to “develop viable urban communities by providing the right housing and the right living environment.”

The measure comes amid President Donald Trump’s widespread push to crack down on sanctuary cities, including the threat of revoking federal funds to those who are not complying with his administration’s immigration agenda.

Hagerty’s bill is sponsored by Rep. Ralph Norman, Rep. Ralph Norman, inside the house, but people are taking them to town to protest ice attacks across the region and across the country as continuing unrest and violence continue to rage in Los Angeles.

Senator Bill Hagerty will talk about border security and title 42 at a press conference at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on May 11, 2023

“That’s easy. If you’re trying to ignore federal immigration laws, don’t expect to get federal tax dollars,” Norman said.

“The sanctuary cities place politics on public safety, and that’s not acceptable,” he continued. The bill makes it clear that cities that choose to house illegal immigrants at the expense of public safety will no longer receive taxpayer money. ”

Their bill outlines the jurisdiction of sanctuaries that prevent the sharing of information identifying individual immigration status, or sanctuaries with local ordinances or policies, or laws that block compliance with requests from DHS, prevent or prevent laws that prevent federal grant funding.

Housing subsidies were already in the White House crosshairs. Certainly, Trump’s slim budget that he announced to Congress last month included provisions that would grant the federal community development block in full.

The program accounts for more than $3 billion in grant funding at the federal level. In its budget proposal, the administration argued that the Community Development Block Grant Program is “more funded and managed at the state and local levels.”

Overall, the president is proposing a cut of about $5 billion in community development programs.
