The second day of the Hard Summer Music Festival will be held at Inglewood Sunday, and officials say new changes to alleviate noise levels have proven successful after receiving numerous complaints last year.
Concert participants flocked to Hollywood Park. There will be a rave there from 2pm to 10pm.
The music festival received many complaints the previous year from several South Bay communities, particularly neighboring El Segundo. A surge in complaints has led the city of Inglewood to ban concerts from American Airlines Plaza at Sophie Stadium.
Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts says this year, organizers repositioned the stage and changed the direction of the speakers to project the front.
Butz says he heard last year from several elected officials and people complaining about the noise from surrounding cities. This year he has not received any complaints and instead received compliments from people who appreciated the difference in sound levels, according to the mayor.
Despite the changes, many people have taken them to social media and complained about the noise, including a neighbor who claimed they called the Inglewood Police Department to complain about the noise level.
“The event is happening now. We’re not half a mile from SO-FI, we don’t hear any vibrations or we don’t hear any noise,” Mayor Butts said. “We have people who live in the Renaissance where they didn’t complain, and my fellow Brian in Redondo Beach, who he heard that last year, says it’s completely different.
Festival attendees say they feel their neighbors, but point out that the concert only lasts until 10pm
“Smoking a neighborhood, it’s a short time, but if you’re in an area you know, I think it’s something, it’s not always fair, but where else do you have it?” the concert researcher said.
People living in the area have told NBC4 that it is better than when they heard it and felt the vibrations.
