Two beloved Southern California restaurants will close this month, citing new developments and economic conditions.
Dana Point landmark Harpoon Henry’s will close on Jan. 28 after nearly 50 years in business, restaurant founder Robert Mardian Jr. announced Nov. 29.
The closure is part of a $550 million redevelopment project underway at the Port of Dana Point. The project is scheduled to take place in midsummer 2025 and will add new hotels, parking, restaurants and architecture to the 52-year-old port.
“We know how much this facility means to the community and are excited to invite you to come celebrate our final season with the team at Harpoon Henry,” Bryon Ward of Dana Point Harbor Partners said in a written release. I recommend it to everyone.”
Mardian Jr. officially notified employees of the closure on Nov. 29, and employees will have the opportunity to join the team at nearby Wind & Sea restaurant, also owned by Mardian Jr., starting in January. You will get it.
The seafood restaurant’s closing announcement comes just one year after the adjacent El Torito restaurant closed after 39 years in business.
Ward said he hopes to announce new dining projects “in the coming months.”
Additionally, The Rose, a famous restaurant and cafe in Venice, has announced that December 15th will be its last day of operation, citing the economic challenges it has faced in recent years.
“From changes in the economy to a decline in tourism and foot traffic in neighboring areas, we have overcome these hurdles with determination and optimism. Unfortunately, these factors have made it difficult for Venice to survive on this scale. “Continuing to operate our chef-driven restaurants has become unsustainable,” the management team said.
The local landmark, which has served the Venice community for 45 years, will be enjoyed at the corner of Rose Avenue and Main Street for the next two weeks.
The restaurant is “honored to serve as a hub for the community and a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike.”
