The Department of Education recently announced a “comprehensive review” of federal contracts and government-funded grants at Harvard University. This is part of a study to eliminate anti-Semitism on campus.

It is launched in accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Agency for General Services (GSA) on behalf of the Joint Task Force to Fight Anti-Semitism. Its main goal is “Eliminat.”[e] Anti-Semitism [sic] Harassment on university campus that has proliferated amid the Israeli Hama war at university and pro-Palestinian protests at university.

In a press release Monday, the Department of Education said more than $255.6 million in contracts between Harvard University, its affiliates and the federal government will be reviewed, along with grants worth $9 billion.

“This review also includes a grant commitment of several years or more years to Harvard University and its affiliates, ensuring that the university complies with federal regulations, including civil rights liability,” the agency explained.

Trump has announced plans to cut down the Magnolia tree, which Andrew Jackson is allegedly planted: “We have to come to the end.”

“An agency found to be in violation of federal compliance standards could face administrative action, including termination of contracts.”

In a statement, Education Secretary Linda McMahon said Harvard’s reputation is “at a serious risk” against the prevalence of anti-Semitism on campus.

“Harvard has served as a symbol of America’s dream for generations, a pinnacle of students from around the world working hard and enrolling in a renowned institution,” reads a statement from McMahon. “Harvard University failed to protect students on campus from anti-Semitism. [sic] Discrimination – while everything promotes more divisive ideology than free investigation – puts its reputation at serious risk. ”

“Harvard can correct these mistakes and restore itself to a campus dedicated to seeking academic excellence and truth.

In a statement Monday evening, Harvard President Alan M. Gerber responded to the news, calling anti-Semitism “one of the most insidious forms of bias,” claiming that if funding stopped, it would halt life-saving research and hamper critical scientific research and innovation.

“Even during my time as president, I experienced anti-Semitism firsthand. I know how damaging it can be for students studying in college and university and coming to make friends,” a Harvard official said.

“For the past 15 months, we have devoted considerable effort to address anti-Semitism. We will continue to fight anti-Semitism and cultivate a campus culture that includes all members of our community.”

Harvard faculty and staff are holding signs from inside Harvard Yard on May 10, 2024, at a press conference by supporters of Harvard University, the Palestinian Union, outside Harvard Yard.

The latest move comes almost a month after the Trump administration announced it would withdraw more than $400 million in federal grants to Columbia University.

“Since October 7th, Jewish students have faced unrelenting violence, intimidation and anti-Semitic harassment on campus, and are simply ignored by those who are supposed to protect them,” McMahon said at the time. “Universities must comply with all federal prevention laws when receiving federal funds.”
