Police said one woman was killed and another injured in San Bernardino Park after two people were attacked in an attack involving more than 12 stray dogs.
San Bernardino police gathered at Perris Hill Park, in the 1100 block of East Highland Avenue after receiving a call saying someone was being attacked by a dog at the park, Sgt. Chris Gray of the San Bernardino Police Station.
Officers encountered multiple dogs when they arrived, he said.
“It looks like they were stray dogs,” Gray said.
At least one dog has begun to indict one of the officers, Gray said officers urged fire with a pit bull.
The Pitbull was attacked and died at the scene.
It was not immediately clear where the dogs came from or how many people were directly involved in the attack, Gray said.
“There were multiple dogs there, so it was a bit of a confusing scene at first,” Gray said.
However, the officers were able to spot the two who appeared to be suffering from several dog bites in the attack, he said.
Officers provided assistance to the two victims. One of them was identified as a woman only and was taken to hospital to die.
It was unclear whether the two victims knew each other, he said.
Animal Services officials were called to assist police officers and had a total of 14 dogs from the park, police department spokesman Araseli Mata said.
