White House officials celebrated on social media after beating rival journalism in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

Sovereignty followed most of the race and didn’t make much of a move close to the final turn, which edged out journalism, his favorite horse to participate in the race.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegses was one of the Trump administration officials who focused on social media outcomes.

“Sovereignty>Journalism,” wrote Hegses. “On the track. And in America in 2025.”

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller also appeared to be referring to the race in a social media post.

“In the Trump administration, sovereignty will always win,” Miller wrote.

Journalist Logan Hall called the victory a “strong harbinger.”

The Trump administration is not a man who is unaware of the bout of friction with the media.

Hegus has been subject to recent scrutiny after the New York Times reported that it shared details of a March military airstrike on Yemen’s Iran-backed Houtsis in a signalling app chat that includes his wife, brother and personal lawyers.

Hegses defended himself from the report, calling the controversy an attempt to “scatter” President Donald Trump’s agenda.

Hegseth accused “dissatisfied former employees” of being “dissatisfied,” claiming that the mainstream media focus should instead be “Houthis decimation.” [the U.S. is] How to push the Chinese back and have a new defence area on the southern border. ”

Miller played against reporters at a White House briefing last week, warning them about reports of MS-13 and Tren de Aragua violence in the US

Miller accused media members of the Trump administration of attempting to “sil” Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a MS-13 member who was deported to El Salvador.

He also accused reports of only covering the sexual assault and murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungarai in June 2024 by two allegedly Tren de Aragua members of the 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungarai because Trump “shames” them.

“Most of your papers never covered her story when it happened. As long as you’re covering it, that’s because President Trump forced you to cover it by highlighting it over and over again,” Miller said. “He had to shame you.”

Taylor Penley, Diana Stancy and Ryan Morik of Fox News Digital contributed to this report.
