Pete Hegseth received another key vote for confirmation as President-elect Trump’s Secretary of Defense.
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-Louisiana) on Friday criticized Mr. Hegseth, an Army veteran whose nomination has been called into question by comments questioning the role of women in the military and allegations of sexual misconduct. He said he would vote for approval. I drank alcohol while working at my previous job.
Hegseth appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee relatively unscathed this week amid questions from lawmakers.

“The President’s choice for Secretary of Defense, Mr. Hegseth, has an excellent academic background, a very good demeanor during Senate military hearings, and a commendable record of service in uniform. He told me: “I have promised to be surrounded by strong support from my team,” Cassidy said in a statement. “I vote for his confirmation.”
Hegseth has widespread support from Republicans, including Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, who had previously expressed concerns about his nomination.

Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville said Hegseth passed his confirmation hearing “with flying colors.”
“They tried to rile him up. They brought up all these anonymous allegations. He had an answer to every one of them,” Tuberville said at the time.
During his trial, protesters were dragged away with zip ties after interrupting the hearing.
Democratic lawmakers also criticized Hegseth’s stance on female combatants, saying her arguments for women in the military are focused on ensuring military discipline is not eroded.

“I want to point out that I have never disrespected the women who serve in the military,” he told Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D.N.Y.). “I respect all military women in uniform, past and present. Senator, my criticism, recent, past, and personal experience, is an example of lowered standards.”
