SAN DIEGO (Fox 5/Kusi) – The helicopter nearly landed on a major interstate driving through San Diego County when the engine broke down Sunday afternoon.
It was a close call, and traffic was backed up after a helicopter landed on a road running along Interstate 15 in northern San Diego County. The I-15 will begin near the US-Mexico border in San Diego County and compete at the northern border with Canada.

Officers and deputies of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to an emergency helicopter landing Sunday at 2:20pm.
CHP reports that the helicopter’s engine has failed, forcing the pilot to land on the N Center City Parkway and meet with Jesmond Dene Road in Escondido, which is not integrated.

No one was injured during the emergency landing, but traffic on nearby I-15 was slowed until a short stop on Sunday afternoon.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were notified of the incident and granted permission for the CHP to remove the helicopter from the road.
