The destruction caused by the Los Angeles wildfires is devastating, and as families try to rebuild amid tragedy, it’s important to remember that some of our furry friends also need help is.
Animals make up as much of Southern California’s communities as humans, and they are in dire need of help. Wondering how you can play your role? Here are some options to get started.
adopt
The option that will bring the most joy to your life may be adopting a pet in need.
SPCALA’s website lists dozens of adoptable dogs and cats, many of whom are currently homeless due to the fire. To free up space at its shelter, the organization has reduced adoption fees to just $50 until January 29th.
LA Animal Services has completely waived adoption fees until Sunday night in consideration of the fire.
Shelter space is limited throughout Southern California, so be sure to check with your local shelter to see if you can take these animals home.
foster
Can’t commit to giving an animal a forever home? That’s okay, because many shelters like the SPCA have temporary foster programs for animals in need.
Short-term and long-term opportunities are available for those interested in adopting and showing love to homeless and abused animals. If you are interested, you can find out more here.
donate
Of course, most shelters and organizations accept donations.
Check with your local shelter to see what they need before donating. Due to the influx of early donations, many shelters have stopped accepting supplies, but virtually all shelters accept monetary donations.
Those still looking for supplies will be asking for items such as dry and wet animal food, blankets, carriers and beds.
If you would like to make a monetary donation, World Animal Welfare is accepting funds to support our wildlife rescue efforts. Please donate here.
