While the US military is struggling against Iran-backed Hooti rebels, President Donald Trump and his White House have defended leaked texts detailing war plans for Yemen’s highly attacks.
This week, the Trump administration submitted many questions and criticisms after the Atlantic detailed how administration officials used signal group chats to discuss the Yemeni strike, and published a story that accidentally added journalists to the group.
The group chat included White House leaders, including Vice President JD Vance and national security adviser Mike Waltz, as well as other administrative staff, including the Secretary of Defense. Additionally, the chat included Jeffrey Goldberg, Editor-in-Chief of the Atlantic.
The White House said the classified information was not shared via encrypted messaging services, but the Atlantic publicly released a full exchange of messages on Wednesday. The message included details of a particular attack, such as a specific aircraft or the time of the strike.

“We’ve been saying that no material was sent classified as this messaging thread,” Leavitt told reporters. “There was no place, no sources or methods were revealed, and the war plans certainly were not discussed.”
Meanwhile, the episode spurred backlash from lawmakers. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss, leader of the Senate Armed Forces Committee. and Dr. Jack Reed said they are requesting a general investigation of inspectors regarding the use of signalling apps.
Additionally, several lawmakers, including Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Intelligence Election Committee, have called for Hegseth to resign.
That happened again this week.
Trump forgives Devon Archer
Trump issued a pardon on Tuesday to Devon Archer, former business associate of his ex-son Hunter Biden.
Archer faced more than a year in prison, but his conviction was overturned before his return in 2020. His appeal to the Supreme Court was denied, so his sentence was aired before the pardon.
“A lot of people asked me to do this,” Trump said before signing the pardon on Tuesday. “They think he was treated very unfairly. And I looked at the records, studied the records, and he was a victim of the crime, so we’re trying to put it back together… Congratulations, Devon.”
Confidentialization of Crossfire Hurricane Russia Investigation Document
Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday, instructing the FBI to immediately declassify files related to the Crossfire Hurricane investigation. This is an agency survey launched in 2016 that sought information on whether members of the Trump campaign conspired with Russia during the presidential election.
After signing the order, Trump raised doubts about whether many journalists would do so, but said the media could previously review files related to the investigation in a modest way.

“You probably don’t care because you don’t like what you see,” Trump said. “But this was a complete weaponization. It’s a dishonorable. It would never have happened in this country. But now we can see for ourselves. Everything will be declassified.”
On July 31, 2016, the FBI launched an anti-intellectual investigation into whether Trump, subsequently presidential candidates, or members of his campaign, had conspired or coordinated with Russia to influence the 2016 election. The investigation was called “Crossfire Hurricane” within the department.
The extensive probes did not bring evidence of criminal conspiracy or adjustments between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Vance visits Greenland
Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance, along with national security adviser Mike Waltz, visited the Pituffik Space Base at Greenland Friday, the northernmost military facility of the Department of Defense. The base is home to Space Force’s 821st Space Station Group to carry out missile warnings, missile defense and space surveillance operations.
The Trump administration is trying to acquire Greenland for national security purposes and accusing Denmark of ignoring Greenland.

However, Danish and Greenland leaders are clearly opposed to Greenland becoming a part of the United States, as Greenland’s prime minister is seeking independence from Copenhagen.

Meanwhile, Denmark is being scrutinized for treatment of indigenous peoples in Greenland. A group of indigenous women from Greenland sued the Danish government in May 2024, accusing Danish health authorities of wearing intrauterine devices without knowledge between the 1960s and 1970s.
Denmark and Greenland began investigating the issue in 2022, with a report expected to be released this year.
