Xavier Becerra, Secretary of Health and Human Services for most of former President Joe Biden’s White House tenure, has announced his California governor’s bid.
“From housing to healthcare, childcare and college, workers’ families are facing an affordable crisis. California’s dreams are slipping, and I’m running for the governor to fight for that dream.
“We need leaders who will once again reward hard work, innovation and durability. We need leaders who have rolled up their sleeves as construction workers, executives and lawmakers. I am the leader and as governor, I am ready to build California where I will stand up again,” he insisted.

Before he led the HHS, Becerra was Golden State’s Attorney General, and before that he served as senator in the U.S. House of Representatives for over 20 years.
Becerra has joined the field of candidates who are currently competing on behalf of California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Gavin Mewsom is currently serving a second term and is not eligible to run again as the state’s constitution states that “the governor cannot provide more than one term.”

Former US Congressman Katie Porter and current Lieutenant Colonel Eleni Kunarakis of California are some of the other candidates jogging for work.
Politico reported that in the pre-Oscar party, Harris was asked by someone when deciding on a governor’s bid. Her answer was the end of the summer, according to two people with knowledge of the lecture, the outlet reported.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris told allies he would decide whether to bid for the role by the end of the summer.

The New York Times is pondering whether Harris is seeking governor next year, or whether he wants to be a presidency in 2028, or a position outside his elected office, the New York Times reported.
