As beach fans are planning a July 4 outing, the Los Angeles County Public Health advised people to avoid seawater on beaches in eight areas due to high levels of bacteria.
The beaches affected are:
Avalon Beach on Catalina Island, 50 feet west of the pier, and Step Beach Swim Area, east of the Casino Arch. Santa Monica Beach, Santa Monica North Tower 12 and 100 yards, 100 yards down the coast from the storm drain. Ramires Creek, Paradise Cove, move up and down the coast 100 yards from the pier. Go down the coast 100 yards up and down from the Bel Air Bay Club, Club Border Fence at Will Rogers State Beach. Mother Beach at Marina del Rey, the entire swimming area. Castle Rock Storm moves up and down the coast 100 yards from the Topanga County Beach drainage channel, a storm drain. Santa Monica Pier and 100 yards up and down the coast from the pier. San Pedro’s inner Cabrillo beach, the entire swimming area.
Meanwhile, previous warnings for Venice Beach (Windward Storm Drain), where a recent sample produced water quality levels within state standards, have been lifted, the Health Department said.
