What began as a routine traffic stop at Oakview last week has turned into a fast, high-risk game of cats and mice on electric motorcycles.
Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies discovered two young men on an unregistered Sulron-style electronic motorcycle in the 11,400 block of North Ventura Avenue on the afternoon of July 24th. When they tried to pull the rider, they didn’t just take off, they turned it into a sight.
Instead of working together, the two riders reportedly untold the agent with indecent gestures.
Deputies say that riders were more interested in doing the show than running away, and stopped them long enough for the police car to catch up before they caught up. For safety reasons, the agent tried to maintain distance and identify the rider without further escalating the situation.
Just before 3pm, one of the suspects (identified as 18-year-old Adam Zepeda of Ojay) tried to overtake the lieutenant to Lalmier Street. He turned to Spring Street and crashed directly into the moving car. The shock shattered his electric bike and launched him into the air.
Emergency workers rushed Zepeda to a local trauma center with serious injuries. Despite his condition, he was arrested after being cited on multiple charges, including avoiding a felony and reckless driving.
A few days later, the detective pursued and arrested 18-year-old Angel Ramirez, also Ojai’s second rider. Authorities say he found an item in his possession that is linked to the incident.
Law enforcement in Ojay Valley says it is seeing an increase in risky behavior involving electric bikes and motorcycles, especially among younger riders. They encourage parents to talk to their children about risks and legal consequences before handing over the keys.
