His loved ones are distraught after his father is arrested by immigration agents while he is shopping at Home Depot in Burbank.

Carlos Mezia Osorio, 42, is the father of five children and works as a handyman and contractor.

On June 19th, Osorio and his adult son, Jonathan Chavez, were picking up materials and supplies for work when federal immigration agents suddenly appeared.

“We were loading the truck and then he was about to get into the car as we were about to leave. Two agents came out of nowhere and started chasing him,” Jonathan told KTLA’s Rick Chambers.

The video of the incident was posted on Burbank Mayor Nikki Perez’s Instagram page. There, Osorio is seen chasing through the parking lot by an agent.

He was eventually taken into custody and taken to a detention center in downtown Los Angeles. The day Osorio was taken, he had a fence locked in Mia Hocky’s backyard.

“The guilt is huge, and it was the first thing I felt,” Hockey said. “We had a hole in the fence that we needed to patch the fence. He worked here. He went to pick up some wood from Home Depot.

Osorio illegally came to the United States from Guatemala about 20 years ago. He has since raised his family in Southern California, worked to provide it to his wife and children, and paid taxes, the family said.

Friends and neighbors told KTLA that they were distraught to hear Osorio’s detention. They described him as a hardworking family man loved by his community.

“We’re upset from that,” said my friend Alex Miners. “He was the first person I thought of. [when the ICE raids began.] They’re just looking at how they’re doing it and targeting brown people. He has been here for 20 years. He is a community member. He goes to church. ”

“He’s not the kind of person the ice should have driven away,” Hocky said. “He is an outstanding member of the community. He is a beloved husband, father and friend. He doesn’t deserve this.”

The family said there was little information about his case and what the next step would be. They are concerned about his wife and children as he is their main provider.

On Friday night, a loved one could contact Osorio and confirmed that he was likely to be transferred to an Arizona facility and to the Houston, Texas area this week.

Here is a GoFundMe page supporting Osorio’s families.
