The Chargers highlighted All-Pro offensive tackle Rashawn Slater, who stands out for a contract extension that will become the highest-paid offensive lineman in NFL history.
Slater’s deal is worth $114 million over four years, according to information obtained by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.
The Chargers did not immediately confirm the terms of the deal in an official statement on Slater’s new contract, but praised the 26-year-old Northwest alumni for setting a number of passing records and helping him stay healthy for the team’s playoff appearances.
“In 2024, he will start 16 games, including the postseason, bringing Herbert upright and committing eight turnovers, setting a franchise record and tying the second offensive turnover in one season in NFL history,” the Chargers’ statement reads. “As a rookie in 2021, Slater started 16 appearances on left tackle and led the front (390.2 yards per game) protected for a total offense in the NFL, before being named Slater the first trumpet as Herbert threw an AFC best 32 pass touchdown, since 2012.”
The Chargers are scheduled to officially kick off the NFL season on Thursday as they play the Detroit Lions in Canton, Ohio, home to the NFL Hall of Fame, in the first preseason game of the 2025-2026 campaign.
As part of the NFL International Series, the team’s first match against the Kansas City Chiefs will be held at 5pm on September 5th at Arena Collingtons in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
