The flames were damaged, but did not defeat Westlake’s historic Pacific Dining Car Restaurant on Thursday morning.
Approximately 100 Los Angeles firefighters responded to the fire in the 1300 block of West Sixth Street. The phone was held at 6:53am, and the first responder arrived at the facility at 7:06am.
Once inside, firefighters determined that the fire had begun and damaged the attic along with the roof of the structure. The building was empty and there were no injuries.
It took me about 45 minutes to defeat the flames. Fire investigators still determine the cause.
“It’s not burning out,” said Lynsei Lantz, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The Los Angeles Building Safety Bureau was also on the site to determine the structural integrity of the building.
Built in 1921 and moved to its current location in 1923, the Spanish clay tile roof restaurant is designed to resemble a railroad carriage. It was permanently closed in 2020 and was boarded and fenced at the time of the fire.
Some of the restaurants burned in August.
Pacific Dining Car was once a popular eatery among LA moving companies and shakers, known for its amazing steaks and 24-hour service. I’ve made several cameos in the film throughout history, including “Training Day.”
The Los Angeles City Council designated part of the site as a historic and cultural monument in 2023.
