Firefighters halted the advance of a wildfire that threatened buildings in the Hollywood Hills Tuesday morning on a red flag warning day due to strong winds in Southern California’s Santa Ana.
The fire was reported around 10 a.m. in the 8400 block of West Sunset Boulevard. Advance was halted just before 11 a.m.
Smoke was visible in the Hollywood area. The area of the fire was estimated to be approximately 3 acres.
Details about how the fire started were not immediately available.
A red flag warning indicating a high risk of fire was issued for large areas of the region on Tuesday morning. The warning is expected to remain in place until Thursday.
Strong offshore winds occurred Tuesday morning when a red flag warning began to be issued for the Malibu Coast, Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area, San Gabriel Valley, San Fernando Valley, and Santa Clarita Valley. The alert is scheduled to expire Thursday at 6 p.m.
By late Tuesday, a red flag warning of severe fire danger will extend to the beaches of Los Angeles County, Palos Verdes Hills and the interior coast of Los Angeles County, which extends to downtown Los Angeles.
When wildfires start, they can spread quickly due to strong winds and dry conditions.
