Fox News First: R-Mo. Senator Josh Hawely of the United States is pushing Congress to ban the Chinese Communist Party from buying up US farm and residential land on Thursday.
Holy introduces protecting our farms and homes from China laws that prohibit Chinese businesses and individuals associated with the Communist Party of China from making such purchases. President Donald Trump’s administration has recently issued warnings about Chinese ownership of US land, particularly around American military bases.
“China’s US farmland ownership poses a direct threat to American interests,” Holy told Fox News Digital in a statement. “We must not allow our country’s biggest enemy to access critical resources, including housing supplies. That’s why I have put in place laws to fully protect American assets from the CCP.”
The bill will be banned entirely on related farmland purchases, but the ban on buying a home only applies for two years, leaving the option of re-uploading the ban every two years beyond that.

Sen. Josh Hawley is calling for a ban on Chinese businesses and individuals associated with the CCP from owning US land.
Under this law, Chinese companies and individuals owning the affected land must sell their title within one year. It also establishes penalties for failing to comply with the law, ranging from fines to full forfeiture.
Hawley’s move comes in parallel with the USDA’s announcement of its national farm security measures plan earlier this week.

The plan is specifically intended to affect threats from foreign governments like China and how those threats affect American farmers. The plan introduced enforcement reforms and called on Congress to pursue laws like Holy.

“For them, the farmland and our farms are weapons that are aimed at us, as they are former inheritances,” she continued. “We watch over and over again, from the acquisition of Chinese communists’ agriculture land to criminal exploitation of our farming system, to the theft of the land and the operational information needed to work on the rest of the future.

Many states have book laws that restrict the purchase of land by people with ties to China and other foreign enemies. Nevertheless, in 2021, over 383,000 acres were associated with China. According to Agricultural Dive, this number has become popular in recent years, but remains an important issue.
