“Home Alone” director Chris Columbus has finally put an end to the constant question of where Kevin McAllister’s parents got the money to buy their beautiful and huge mansion in Chicago.
“At that time, John [Hughes] “And we talked about it,” Columbus explained in a Dec. 24 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, “and we took the job.”
So what exactly did Kevin McAllister’s parents do? The movie actually contained some hints. If you’ve ever noticed Kevin’s (Macaulay Culkin) dancing mannequin placed in a window to ward off criminals Harry (played by Joe Pesci) and Marv (played by Daniel Stern), it’s Kate McAllister, played by Catherine O’Hara. You might have guessed that. “He was a very successful fashion designer,” the director said.
As for John Heard’s Peter McAllister, the details are a little more hazy.
“Based on John Hughes’ own experience, his father may have worked in advertising,” the 66-year-old said. “But I don’t remember what my father did.”
However, one thing was certain for him. That is, Peter had no forensic talent.
“It’s not organized crime, even though there was a lot of organized crime in Chicago at the time,” he added.
Once the mystery is solved, you can finally practice “Kevin!” Pose peacefully. As it turns out, Culkin and Brenda Song’s sons are already doing the same thing.
“He thinks he’s Kevin,” Culkin recently told E! News about our oldest child, Dakota (3 years old). “I said, ‘Do you remember riding down those stairs on a sled?'” He was like, “Hmm, sure.” ‘Remember when he had yellow hair?’ And he was like, ‘Hmm, yeah.’
“‘You’re a lying liar,'” he recalled joking to his son. “That was me!”
But Culkin’s older brother Kieran Culkin (who has daughter Kinsey, 5, and son Wilder, 3, with wife Jaz Churton) has had similar experiences with his own children. Not yet. In fact, he recently revealed that his kids haven’t even seen the movie yet.
“There are still some scary parts,” the 42-year-old explained to E! News from earlier this month. “The 3-year-old has a tarantula.” [and] At the end, there’s a guy who says, “I’m going to bite off all your fingers.” That’s scary for a 3 year old. ”
But the “Succession” star teased that the first-ever family screening could be happening soon.
“I think I might be ready for ‘Home Alone’ this year,” he revealed. “If not, next year.”
