The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Tuesday that employees of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) who worked on “mistakes, diss and malicious formations” were placed on administrative leave.

In a statement to Scripps News, DHS Deputy Chief Tricia McLaughlin wrote that CISA must start with election security and “refocus on its mission.”

“The agency is assessing how it carried out its election security mission with a special focus on work related to false, fraud and maliciousness,” the statement said.

As Fox News Digital first reported, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in April 2022 that the Department of Homeland Security was trying to fight false information ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. He testified that he was creating a committee.

When appearing before the House Budget Subcommittee, Mallorkas said a “Disinformation Governance Committee” was created to address a false information campaign aimed at minority communities.

Mayorkas Rips “politicized” the “atmosphere” for FEMA disaster response amid criticism in GOP.

The statement said personnel who worked on “mistakes, diss, and malicious formations” and foreign influence operations and disinformation will remain on administrative leave while agents conduct their assessments.

The board is said to be led by Chief Deputy Adviser Jennifer Gaskill and co-chairman Policy Rob Silver.

Nina Jankowich, a former disinformation fellow at Wilson Center, reportedly reportedly served as executive director.
