D-Wash. In response to accusations from Democrat Pramila Jayapal, the Ministry of Homeland Security has opposed “absolutely false” media reports about pregnant immigrants who allegedly denied prenatal care while in ice detention.
Nashville Banner reported in May that Iris Dayana Monteroso Lemas, an illegal Guatemas immigrant in her 30s, had given birth to the mid-term boy, born “after several days of suing medical assistance.”
According to the outlet, Montero Solemas was due in September, but was arrested in April for ICE in Lenoir, Tennessee. After his arrest, Montero Solemas was moved several times to a facility in Illinois, Alabama, and finally to the Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana.
The outlet claims that Richwood Centre has a “long history of documented abuse,” and that “many of these issues were reflected” while Montero Solemas explains her treatment. In the article, Monteroso Lemas claims that she was malnourished while incarcerated and was oc-chuckled by the guard who gave her minimal medical intervention, rather than helping her when she expressed concern about her pregnancy.

The outlet reported that Montero Solemas was given a regimen of 12 tablets to ultimately take daily. A few days later, she began to experience contractions, and a few days later she gave birth to a stillborn baby while she was at Monroe Medical Center at Oxner LSU Health.
According to the outlet, Montero Solemas currently lives in Guatemala.
Commenting on the story, Jayapal said, “This is absolutely disgusting and we should all be furious.”

“A pregnant woman lost her baby after the ice refused prenatal care,” Jayapal said. “She asked for help and was denied. She was given food full of cockroaches. She was forced to sleep on the floor.”
However, Tricia McLaughlin, deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, responded to Jayapal’s post, saying that her claims were “absolutely false.”
According to McLaughlin, Montero Solemas “had full medical care, prenatal care.”

McLaughlin said DHS has documents certifying her claims. DHS did not respond immediately to Fox News Digital’s request to view the documentation.

McLaughlin further said Montero Solemas has been arrested multiple times for child abuse and has been asked for an aggressive warrant for murder.
White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson also told Fox News Digital that “we call out their fake stories every time.”
“President Trump’s immigration policy is popular, and that’s why Americans elected him. Democrats know that facts aren’t on their side, so they resort to lying,” Jackson said.
Neither Jayapal nor Nashville Banner responded immediately to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
