In 2021, a transient man pleaded guilty to punching an Asian American woman in the head while yelling racial slurs at her in Culver City.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that Jesse Lindsay, 38, whose last known address was in Fontana, has pleaded guilty to one count of hate crime. He has been in federal custody since July 18 and was previously in state prison on an unrelated conviction.
At approximately 1 a.m. on June 14, 2021, the victim was walking to work in Culver City when, according to federal prosecutors, Lindsey approached her and yelled at the victim, who he identified as Asian. I can’t say hello,” he yelled. be [expletive] A white boy? ”
Lindsey then punched the victim in the head, causing him to fall to the street and hit his head.
As the victim lay face down in the street, Lindsay screamed: [N-word]?I said good morning, b****! ” the prosecutor said.
The victim received approximately 11 stitches to his head and ear.
To help identify the woman’s attacker, authorities released surveillance video of the suspect inside a nearby convenience store shortly after the assault.
Prosecutors said Lindsay made multiple derogatory and profane comments about people of Asian descent during questioning after being identified.
“The facts of this case shock the conscience,” said Akil Davis, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office. “Mr. Lindsey’s actions were heinous, despicable, and inhumane. Violating the civil rights of others by participating in racial violence violates our values as Americans. Masu.”
Lindsey faces a statutory maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for March 3, 2025.
