Santa Ana police say they are investigating a possible hate crime related to a homeowner’s Mexican flag being stolen, spray-painted on his fence and a creepy note affixed to a rock thrown in his yard. Authorities confirmed to KTLA.
Officers with the Santa Ana Police Department responded to a recent flag theft incident on December 3rd.
Surveillance footage from an earlier incident shows a man attempting to pull down a flagpole on a homeowner’s property just after 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 21, then changing tactics and lifting the flagpole out of its place. It is being shown.
The man was then seen carrying a pole with a Mexican flag on it to the homeowner’s closed gate, placing the flag on the other side, and crawling out of the property.

Police said the homeowner had the word “USA” graffitied in white paint on his fence, and a rock in his yard read “No Mas Mexican Flag, Ultimate Warning” in Spanish. They announced that they found a note with a curse word written on it. words.

Investigators are unsure at this time whether the incidents of flag theft and property damage are related.
Officials said they are working with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office to file charges once the suspect is apprehended.
