Speaker of the House Mike Johnson announced Tuesday that everyone will raise the flag at the U.S. Capitol next Monday, Jan. 20, to commemorate President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.

The move comes despite President Biden’s official order that flags across the country be flown at half-staff during a 30-day period of mourning following the death of former President Jimmy Carter on Dec. 29.

“On January 20th, the flag will fly at full-staff over the Capitol to celebrate the nation coming together for the inauguration of our 47th president, Donald Trump. “Jimmy Carter,” Johnson said in a statement.

The Republican governor says all staff will display the flag at President Trump’s inauguration in the state.

Mr. Johnson is a strong supporter of Mr. Trump, and the president-elect’s recent endorsements have helped soften opposition from some far-right Republicans to Mr. Johnson’s reelection as the new speaker of Congress.

According to the U.S. Flag Regulations, the U.S. flag must be flown at half-mast on federal buildings, military installations, ships, and other facilities in and around the U.S. embassy for 30 days to commemorate the passing of a current or former president. Ru. world.

Earlier this month, Trump claimed on social media that all Democrats were “blindsided” by flags being flown at half-staff at the inauguration.

President Trump insisted, “No one wants to see this.” “No American will be happy about this. Let’s see what happens. Let’s make America great again!”

The flag, which had been flown at half-staff, was raised days after Carter’s funeral at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and burial in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. Both took place on Thursday.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Monday that flags will also be flown at the state capitol in Austin and all state buildings next Monday to commemorate President Trump’s inauguration.
