Hospitals could become “soft targets” for Iran’s terrorist attacks, warn experts

Following reports of Iranian citizens illegally entering the United States and released to the country by the Biden administration, experts warn that the sanctuary jurisdiction, with policies that block the ice and obstruct the enforcement of federal immigration, are the most vulnerable targets of Iran-sponsored terrorist attacks that are considering restoring the US strike over the weekend.

The number of Iranians released to the country by border patrol agents under former President Joe Biden’s administration has increased in succession each year in the administration. In total, the Border Patrol arrested 1,504 Iranian citizens from 2021 to 2024, and of the 1,504 individuals arrested, 729 have been released to the United States.

Hours after Trump addressed the nation on a US military attack on Iran’s nuclear site, DHS released a new memo warning about the “increasing threat environment in the United States.”

The bulletin states, “If Iranian leaders issue a religious ruling seeking retaliatory violence against their targets in their homeland, the possibility of violent extremists in their homeland would likely mobilize independently to violence in response to conflict.”

NBC News reported that at last week’s G7 summit, Iran sent a message to Trump that he could activate “sleeper cells” and carry out terrorist attacks in the US.

“We have to assume that there is a possibility of a threat,” Lora Reese, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Border Guards and Immigration Center, told Fox News Digital.

Leese said the government knows that 729 Iranian illegal immigrants have been released to the country under Biden, but the real concern is that “we don’t know” how many unknown “gotta” there is currently in the US.

She said concerns are the most serious in so-called sanctuary jurisdictions that have policies, or in groups that are actively blocking federal immigration authorities from carrying out deportation.

“Democrats need to help deport themselves,” she said, noting that despite the story of ice agents arresting innocent immigrants, many of the illegal actors are serious criminals, or in some cases even terrorists.

Andrew Arthur, an immigration policy expert at the Center for Immigration Research, told Fox News Digital that the “ultimate soft target” for terrorist attacks will be hospitals, particularly hospitals in sanctuary jurisdictions. He pointed to Iran’s recent bombing of hospitals in Israel’s Bear Shebah, demonstrating that the regime was willing to carry out such an attack.

“That could be in the US,” Arthur said. “If you’re trying to think of a soft target that could have a devastating impact, it’s going to be a hospital.”

To prevent such attacks, Arthur emphasized the importance of federal, state and local law enforcement all working together to monitor and respond proactively to threats.

“Fortunately, DNI [the Director of National Intelligence] You need to know what your potential future targets are. “DNI is not going to share it publicly, but it should all flow into state and local law enforcement through DHS,” he explained.

“The problem is, now we have all these state and local law enforcement agencies and sanctuary jurisdictions that don’t actually work with DHS,” he said. “It could create its own vulnerability.”

“It exacerbates the risk,” he continued. “I think a lot of California law enforcement agencies are confused about what they can and cannot do with SB-54 (California Value Act), because it can potentially create their own vulnerabilities.”

That being said, Arthur said Iran-sponsored terrorist attacks within the US would likely be a “suicidal move” and perhaps a “last hopeless move.” Still, Arthur said there remained “real concerns” about the Iran-sponsored terrorist attacks within the US borders.

“The threat is realistic. Whether or not they will use it is a different question,” he concluded, adding that “the Biden administration puts the people of America at an unacceptable level of threat.”

On Monday evening, Trump wrote on social media: “It’s completely agreed between Israel and Iran and there’s a complete, complete ceasefire… 12 hours, at which point the war is considered!”
