A group of University of Southern California students, alumni and volunteers are united in support of upcoming immigration-related court hearings.
Olu Orange, assistant professor of political science and international relations and founder of USC Dornsife’s Agent of Change, filed a move to move court hearings online.
The AOC’s Hotline Call – 888-462-5211 – will be answered by approximately 15 volunteers who will help defendants fill out the necessary documents to request that the hearing be moved online. Help is available to both English and Spanish speakers.
We file a motion with the support of the National Immigration Project, Orange and his company, Orange Law Firm.
“Many people who come with immigration hearings are not represented by lawyers, so unless someone is helping them, they have to do everything themselves,” Orange said as reported by USC Annenberg Media. “We strive to do that with our agent of change.”
Orange pointed out there is no guarantee that the motion will pass, and USC said the hotline is not affiliated with USC Gould Law School or its immigration law clinic, but that has not stopped thousands of people from across the country from seeking support.
As Orange explained, those callings are trying to follow the law, and they are punished for it.
“That fact [migrants] Having a case in court means they follow the legal process that is assumed. And when they do it and they report it on the court date, they’re seized,” he said.
