Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee sent a letter Tuesday asking the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to condemn House Attorney Jim Jordan and R. Ohio’s Jim Jordan “forcefully” into the Jerry Nadler Congressional Office and handcuff members of their staff.

Jamie Raskin, D-Md, judicial ranking member for Nadler and Fellow House. The letter sent by challenges DHS’s claim that the agent is conducting a “security check” in Nadler’s office.

“Therefore, I urge you to take Kristi Noem, the secretary of DHS, before the committee.

Nadler and Raskin said the video released from the incident revealed that agents had handcuffed staff and requested access to “private areas” within Nadler’s office to “quest for staff safety and security.”

“These types of intimidation tactics are completely unfair and unacceptable. The decision to enter the Congressional office and restrain Congressional staff indicates a very troublesome ignorance of appropriate legal boundaries,” says Nadler and Raskin.

House Democrats have urged Jordan to condemn the incident and have called for DHS Executive Director Christie Noem to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.

“As chair of the House Committee on Judiciary, we are calling on you to condemn the separation of Congress and this aggressive humiliation for the safety of our members of Congress, our staff and our members,” Nadler and Ruskin said.

DHS previously told Fox News Digital that a Federal Protection Services (FPS) official who joined Nadler’s office was responding to reports that protesters were inside Nadler’s district office in Manhattan. There was a protest outside the immigration officers at the same facility as Nadler’s office.

“Based on previous incidents at a nearby facility, FPS officials were concerned about the safety of federal employees at the office and went there to ensure the safety and welfare of the attendees,” a Homeland Security spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“Officers identified themselves and explained their intention to carry out security checks. However, one individual became verbally confrontational and physically blocked access to the office,” the spokesman added. “The officers then detained the individual in the hallway with the aim of completing the security check. Everything was released without further incident.”

House Democrats rebutted the spokesman’s claims in the letter, criticising the incident as a bigger issue amid President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

“Sadly, this incident is part of a broader pattern of DHS using illegal, chaotic, and reckless tactics in communities across the United States, as it threatens and intimidates children, clergy, students, members of Congress and their staff,” they said.

Nadler denounced Trump for “sowing chaos” in a statement released Saturday.

“It’s time to stop using these illegal tactics and ensure that DHS complies with the law and common norms of human common sense,” Nadler and Ruskin conclude in a letter.

DHS did not immediately provide a comment.
