A woman accused of impersonating a nurse at a Los Angeles hospital pleaded not guilty Friday to multiple charges, including impersonation and impersonation.
Amanda LeAnn Porter, 44, stole Amanda Ray Porter’s personal information in order to impersonate a registered nurse, according to a complaint filed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
The suspect was scheduled for another court hearing on December 2nd.
Porter, a Virginia native, did not have a nursing license and was already on federal probation for fraud in her home state, officials said.
The woman was arrested Nov. 7 after working as a nurse at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center. Police said Porter received at least two paychecks from the hospital during his fraudulent employment.
Porter worked at Burbank Hospital from April 8 to May 8 and is estimated to have cared for about 60 patients.
The hospital said staff promptly alerted authorities as well as patients about Porter’s incident.
The woman is also accused of committing a similar crime at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Santa Clarita.
“In early October, it became known that an employee had falsified documents in order to obtain employment with our hospital,” the hospital said in a statement. “After our discovery, we took immediate and appropriate action, including terminating her employment and reporting her to regulatory and law enforcement authorities. There is no indication that the quality of care received by our patients was compromised.” ”
Porter was being held without bail on charges of identity theft, identity theft and grand theft.
Authorities believe Porter may have committed similar crimes in Southern California and are asking anyone with information to call 818-238-3210.
