The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department notified Monday that dozens of homeless people living in the industrial city’s trailer storage lot must leave by Wednesday.
The department’s homeless outreach team worked with unpopular people who moved to RVS to find a home alternative, and cleanup work continued, with the owner of the trailer parked in the lot explaining that the issues began a year ago.
RV dealer Black Series RV has been using the Gale Avenue lot near Azusa Avenue since 2021 as a traffic yard, according to company owner Jack Hong Wei Qui.
However, from February 2024, Qui said trespassers began stealing parts from parked vehicles such as air conditioners, microwaves and refrigerators.
Conditions have deteriorated as 20 RVs have been stolen over the past year and trespassers have been moved to trailers left in the lot.
Qui thought about 80 people living in the RV, but the trespasser damaged around 100 trailers, causing repairs worth around $5 million.
The owner of the RV company also claimed he did not call the Sheriff’s Office multiple times last year.
“People were taken away for trespassing, but they could return the next day,” Hong Wei Ki said.
The company could potentially sell used lot trailers to nonprofits supporting the homeless, Qui said.
